This study explores the profound truth of death's abolition through the power and authority of our Lord Jesus Christ. We will examine the nature of God, Jesus' victory over death, our participation in His life, and the glorious future hope of complete triumph over mortality.

1. The Nature of God and the Abolition of Death

Verses: John 14:7-9; 1 Timothy 3:16; Isaiah 9:6
  • To see Jesus is to see the Father, for He is the visible image of the invisible God.
  • God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
  • Jesus is called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

1.3 Death's Origin and God's Plan for Redemption

Verses: Romans 5:12; Genesis 2:17; John 3:16
  • Death entered the world through sin, and so death passed upon all humanity.
  • The consequence of disobedience was spiritual death.

  • Jesus, being raised from the dead, dies no more; death has no more dominion over Him.
  • God loosed the pains of death, because it was not possible that He should be held by it.

2.2 Jesus Holds the Keys of Death and Hades

  • Through His death, He destroyed him who had the power of death, that is, the devil.

2.3 The Power of His Name

Verses: Philippians 2:9-11; Acts 4:12; Colossians 3:17
  • God has highly exalted Jesus and given Him a name which is above every name.
  • At the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth.
  • There is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.

3. Our Participation in His Victory

3.1 Repentance and Water Baptism in Jesus' Name

3.2 Receiving the Spirit of Life

Verses: Acts 2:4; John 3:5; Romans 8:10-11
  • The infilling of the Holy Spirit, evidenced by speaking in other tongues, is a vital part of the new birth.
  • Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
