Living a Resurrected Life
An exploration of what it means to live a new life in Christ, empowered by the Spirit, and transformed by the truth of God's Word.
1. Understanding Our New Identity in Christ
1.1 Dying to Self, Rising with Christ
Verses: Romans 6:3-4; Galatians 2:20; Colossians 3:1-3
- Our old self, bound by sin, was crucified with Christ.
- Through identification with His death, we are freed from sin's dominion.
- We are raised to walk in newness of life, reflecting His resurrection.
1.2 Clothed in Righteousness
Verses: 2 Corinthians 5:17; Philippians 3:9; Isaiah 61:10
- We are no longer defined by our past sins but by Christ's righteousness.
- God sees us as holy and blameless in Him.
- This new identity empowers us to live righteously.
1.3 A New Creation
Verses: 2 Corinthians 5:17; Ephesians 4:22-24; Colossians 3:9-10
- In Christ, we are fundamentally transformed, not just reformed.
- The old has passed away; behold, all things are new.
- We are being renewed in the knowledge and image of our Creator.
2. The Foundation of Our Resurrected Life: The Name of Jesus
2.1 The Power of His Name
Verses: Acts 4:12; Philippians 2:9-11; Colossians 3:17
- Salvation is found in no other name than Jesus.
- Every knee will bow, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
- All we do, we should do in the name of the Lord Jesus.
2.2 Buried and Raised in His Name
Verses: Acts 2:38; Romans 6:3-4; Colossians 2:12
- Repentance and water baptism in the name of Jesus Christ are for the remission of sins.
- Baptism symbolizes our death to sin and resurrection to new life with Him.
- Through baptism, we are identified with His death, burial, and resurrection.
2.3 Filled with His Spirit
Verses: Acts 2:4; Acts 10:44-46; Acts 19:5-6
- The promise of the Holy Spirit is for all who believe.
- Receiving the Spirit empowers us for a resurrected life.
- Speaking in other tongues is the initial evidence of the Spirit's indwelling.
3. Walking in the Spirit
3.1 Yielding to the Spirit
Verses: Galatians 5:16; Romans 8:5-6; Ephesians 5:18
- To live a resurrected life, we must continually surrender to the Spirit's leading.
- Setting our minds on the Spirit brings life and peace.
- Being filled with the Spirit is an ongoing command, not a one-time event.
3.2 Overcoming the Flesh
Verses: Galatians 5:17; Romans 8:13; 1 Peter 2:11
- There is a constant battle between the Spirit and the flesh.
- By the Spirit, we put to death the deeds of the body.
- We are called to abstain from fleshly lusts that war against the soul.
3.3 Bearing Spiritual Fruit
Verses: Galatians 5:22-23; John 15:5; Matthew 7:16-20
- A life led by the Spirit will produce the fruit of the Spirit.
- We cannot bear fruit apart from abiding in Christ.
- Good fruit is evidence of a genuine resurrected life.
3.4 Exercising Spiritual Gifts
Verses: 1 Corinthians 12:4-11; Romans 12:6-8; 1 Peter 4:10-11
- The Spirit distributes various gifts for the edification of the body.
- These gifts are manifestations of the Spirit for the common good.
- We are called to use our gifts to serve one another.
4. The Hope of Future Resurrection
4.1 Our Glorified Bodies
Verses: 1 Corinthians 15:42-44; Philippians 3:20-21; 1 John 3:2
- Our mortal bodies will be raised immortal and incorruptible.
- We await the transformation of our lowly bodies to be like His glorious body.
- When He appears, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.
4.2 Eternal Life with God
Verses: John 3:16; Revelation 21:3-4; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
- The resurrected life culminates in eternal fellowship with God.
- God will dwell with His people, and there will be no more sorrow or pain.
- We will forever be with the Lord.
4.3 Living with an Eternal Perspective
Verses: Colossians 3:1-2; 2 Corinthians 4:18; Hebrews 11:13-16
- Our focus should be on things above, not on earthly things.
- We look not at what is seen but at what is unseen, for the unseen is eternal.
- We are pilgrims and strangers on earth, seeking a heavenly country.
