The Power and Significance of the Name of Jesus

1. The Authority in the Name

1.1 Jesus' Declaration of Authority

Verses: Matthew 28:18; John 5:22-23
  • Jesus declared that all authority in heaven and on earth was given to Him.
  • This authority is exercised through His name.

1.2 Exercising Authority Through the Name

Verses: Mark 16:17; Acts 3:6; Acts 16:18
  • Casting out demons is done in the name of Jesus.
  • Healing the sick is accomplished through the name of Jesus.

2. Salvation and the Name

2.1 Repentance and Baptism

Verses: Luke 24:47; Acts 2:38
  • Repentance is a necessary step toward salvation.
  • Baptism is to be administered in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins.

2.2 Calling on the Name

  • Whosoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
  • Confessing Jesus as Lord is essential for salvation.

  • There is one faith centered on Him, and one baptism into His name.

4. Living in the Name

4.1 Doing All in the Name

Verses: Colossians 3:17
  • Whatever we do in word or deed, we are to do all in the name of Jesus.
  • Giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

4.2 Prayer in the Name

Verses: John 16:23-24
  • We are to ask the Father for things in Jesus' name.
  • Jesus promises that the Father will grant our requests made in His name.
