1. The Oneness of God

1.1 The Singular Nature of God

  • The scriptures affirm that God is one. There is no plurality of persons within the Godhead.
  • The term 'God' refers to the one and only Almighty, not a collective of divine beings.
  • Understanding God's oneness is foundational to understanding all His other attributes.

1.2 God's Eternal Existence

  • God has always existed and will always exist. He is not bound by time.
  • He is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end.
  • His eternal nature sets Him apart from all creation.

2. The All-Encompassing Nature of God

2.1 God's Omnipresence

Verses: Psalm 139:7-12; Jeremiah 23:24; Acts 17:28
  • God is present everywhere at all times. He fills all of creation.
  • There is no place where one can flee from His presence.
  • His omnipresence demonstrates His intimate involvement in all things.

2.2 God's Omniscience

Verses: Psalm 147:5; Isaiah 40:28; Romans 11:33
  • God knows everything, past, present, and future. Nothing is hidden from Him.
  • His knowledge is perfect and complete.
  • His omniscience enables Him to guide and direct our lives.

2.3 God's Omnipotence

Verses: Matthew 19:26; Luke 1:37; Revelation 19:6
  • God is all-powerful. He is able to do anything that is consistent with His nature.
  • Nothing is impossible for Him.
  • His omnipotence gives us confidence in His ability to fulfill His promises.

3. The Moral Attributes of God

3.1 God's Justice

Verses: Psalm 89:14; Isaiah 61:8; Romans 9:14
  • God is perfectly just in all His ways. He always does what is right.
  • He will judge the world in righteousness.
  • His justice demands that sin be punished.

3.2 God's Love

Verses: Psalm 103:8; John 3:16; Romans 5:8
  • God's love is unconditional and sacrificial. He loves all of humanity.
  • He demonstrated His love by sending His Son, Jesus, to die for our sins.
  • His love motivates Him to offer salvation to all who believe.

3.3 God's Truthfulness

Verses: Numbers 23:19; Titus 1:2; Hebrews 6:18
  • God is truth. He cannot lie or deceive.
  • His word is truth.
  • We can trust in His promises because He is faithful to His word.

4. The Revelation of God in Christ

4.1 The Name of God

Verses: Exodus 3:14; John 8:58; Revelation 1:8
  • God revealed Himself as 'I AM'. This signifies His self-existence and eternal nature.
  • Jesus identified Himself with the 'I AM', demonstrating His divine identity.
  • The name of God is powerful and represents His character and authority.

4.2 God Manifest in Flesh

Verses: John 1:1, 14; Colossians 2:9; 1 Timothy 3:16
  • God manifested Himself in the flesh through Jesus Christ.
  • In Jesus dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.
  • Jesus is the visible image of the invisible God.
