He Is Our Life

This study explores the profound truth that our very existence, salvation, and purpose are found in Him. We will delve into His identity as the source of all life, how we enter into that life, and how we live it out daily, culminating in the glorious hope of His eternal presence.

1. The Revelation of Our Life-Giver

1.1 The One True God Revealed in Christ

Verses: Isaiah 9:6; John 14:9; Colossians 2:9
  • Jesus is not merely a prophet or a separate person, but the manifestation of the one eternal God.
  • In Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.
  • To see Jesus is to see the Father, for He is the Father revealed in flesh.

1.2 Jesus: Creator and Sustainer

Verses: John 1:3; Colossians 1:16-17; Hebrews 1:3
  • All things were made by Him and for Him.
  • He holds all creation together by the word of His power.
  • He is the source of all life, both physical and spiritual.

1.3 The Name Above All Names

Verses: Philippians 2:9-11; Acts 4:12; Matthew 28:18
  • God has highly exalted Him and given Him a name which is above every name.
  • There is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.
  • All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Him.

2. Entering into His Life

2.1 Repentance: Turning to the Source

Verses: Acts 2:38; Luke 13:3; Acts 3:19
  • Repentance is a change of mind and heart, turning away from sin and towards God.
  • It is the foundational step to receiving His life.
  • God commands all men everywhere to repent.

2.2 Water Baptism: Buried with Him

Verses: Acts 2:38; Romans 6:3-4; Colossians 2:12
  • Baptism in water in the name of Jesus Christ is for the remission of sins.
  • It symbolizes our death to sin and resurrection to new life in Him.
  • Through baptism, we are identified with His death, burial, and resurrection.

2.3 Spirit Baptism: Empowered by His Presence

Verses: Acts 2:4; Acts 1:8; John 7:38-39
  • Receiving the Holy Spirit is the infilling of God's own Spirit into our lives.
  • It empowers us to be His witnesses and live a victorious life.
  • The initial evidence of receiving the Spirit is speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance.

3. Living Out His Life in Us

3.1 Walking in the Spirit

Verses: Galatians 5:16; Romans 8:14; Ephesians 5:18
  • To walk in the Spirit means to be led by and yield to the Holy Spirit daily.
  • This prevents us from fulfilling the lusts of the flesh.
  • Being filled with the Spirit is an ongoing experience, not a one-time event.

3.2 Obedience to His Word

Verses: John 14:15; James 1:22; Matthew 7:24
  • Love for Him is demonstrated through obedience to His commands.
  • We are called to be doers of the Word, not hearers only.
  • Building our lives on His words ensures a firm foundation.

3.3 Bearing Fruit for His Glory

Verses: John 15:5; Galatians 5:22-23; Matthew 5:16
  • As branches connected to the vine, we are to bear spiritual fruit.
  • The fruit of the Spirit is evidence of His life working in us.
  • Our good works should glorify our Father in heaven.

4. The Fullness of His Life

4.1 Continual Transformation

Verses: 2 Corinthians 3:18; Romans 12:2; Philippians 1:6
  • We are continually being transformed into His image by the Spirit.
  • This transformation involves renewing our minds according to His Word.
  • He who began a good work in us will carry it on to completion.

4.2 His Return and Our Glorification

Verses: 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; 1 Corinthians 15:51-52; Philippians 3:20-21
  • He will return for His church, and we will be caught up to meet Him.
  • Our mortal bodies will be transformed into glorious, immortal bodies.
  • This is the blessed hope of all who live in Him.

4.3 Eternal Life in Him

Verses: John 3:16; 1 John 5:11-12; Revelation 21:3-4
  • He offers eternal life to all who believe and obey Him.
  • This life is found in Him, for He is the true God and eternal life.
  • We will dwell with Him forever, where there will be no more sorrow or pain.
