Building on the True Foundation: A Study of 1 Corinthians 3:5–15

1. God's Instruments and the Single Source of Growth (1 Corinthians 3:5–7)

  • Those who plant and those who water are united in one single divine objective.
  • Each servant will receive a personal reward according to their individual labor and faithfulness.

3. The Singular Foundation of Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 3:10–11)

3.1 Laying the Apostolic Foundation

  • Apostolic ministry lays the foundational truth through the grace granted by God.
  • Every teacher and believer must take careful heed how they build upon this established truth.

3.2 Jesus Christ as the Exclusive Foundation

  • No individual can lay any other foundation than the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • Jesus Christ embodies the divine fullness and serves as the sole anchor for salvation.

4. Testing the Quality of Spiritual Labor (1 Corinthians 3:12–15)

4.1 Enduring Materials Versus Temporal Efforts

  • Gold, silver, and precious stones represent Spirit-inspired truth and holy obedience.
  • Wood, hay, and straw represent fleshly works, human traditions, and carnal wisdom.

4.2 The Refining Fire of God's Judgment

  • The Day of the Lord will test every person's work through divine fire.
  • Works grounded in Christ endure for reward, while fleshly efforts are consumed.
