The Path to Salvation: Confession, Belief, and New Life

This study explores the profound meaning of Romans 10:9, examining the essential elements of confessing Jesus as Lord, believing in His resurrection, and understanding the transformative power of salvation.

1. Confessing "The Lord Jesus"

1.1 The Deity of Jesus Christ

Verses: 1 Timothy 3:16; Colossians 2:9; Revelation 1:8
  • Jesus is God manifested in the flesh.
  • All the fullness of the Godhead dwells in Him bodily.
  • He is the Alpha and Omega, the Almighty.

1.2 "Lord" as a Divine Title

Verses: Ephesians 4:5; Philippians 2:9-11; Isaiah 45:23
  • There is one Lord.
  • Every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
  • Confessing Jesus as Lord is acknowledging His supreme authority and divine nature.

1.3 The Act of Confession

Verses: Matthew 10:32; Romans 10:10; 1 John 4:15
  • It's an outward declaration of an inward conviction.
  • With the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
  • Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him.

2. Believing in the Resurrection

2.1 God's Power in the Resurrection

Verses: Romans 8:11; John 10:18; Acts 2:24
  • The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead dwells in us.
  • Jesus Himself declared He had power to lay down His life and take it again.
  • God loosed the pains of death, because it was not possible that He should be holden of it.

2.2 The Resurrection as Proof of Deity

Verses: Romans 1:4; 1 Corinthians 15:14; Acts 17:31
  • Declared to be the Son of God with power by the resurrection from the dead.
  • Without the resurrection, our faith is futile.
  • It provides assurance to all men that God will judge the world in righteousness.

2.3 The Heart of Belief

Verses: Hebrews 11:6; James 2:19; John 3:16
  • Without faith it is impossible to please God.
  • Even the demons believe and tremble, but this is not saving faith.
  • It's a deep, abiding trust that leads to eternal life.

3. The Promise of Salvation

3.1 What Salvation Entails

Verses: Acts 2:38; Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5
  • Salvation is deliverance from sin's penalty and power.
  • It is by grace through faith, not by works.
  • It is through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.

3.2 The Process of New Birth

Verses: John 3:5; Acts 2:38; Galatians 3:27
  • One must be born of water and the Spirit to enter the kingdom of God.
  • Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
  • As many as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

3.3 Living a Saved Life

Verses: Philippians 2:12; Romans 6:4; 2 Corinthians 5:17
  • Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
  • We should walk in newness of life.
  • Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.
