Finding Peace in Times of Anxiety
This Bible study explores how to overcome anxiety by deepening our understanding of God's nature, His unwavering care, and the power available to us through His Spirit.
1. Understanding God's Sovereignty and Care
1.1 God's Unchanging Nature and Power

- God is eternally the same, His power is limitless.
- He never tires or changes His purpose, providing a steadfast anchor for our souls.
- His faithfulness is a constant source of comfort in an ever-changing world.
1.2 The Creator's Provision

- The one God who created all things also sustains and provides for His children.
- He demonstrates His care in every aspect of life, from the birds of the air to our daily needs.
- His provision assures us that He will meet our needs according to His riches in glory.
1.3 Jesus as the Manifestation of God's Care

- Jesus is the visible expression of the invisible God, showing us the Father's heart and character.
- In Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily, revealing God's complete nature.
- He perfectly reflects God's glory and sustains all things by His powerful word, demonstrating His ultimate authority and love.
2. Trusting in the One True God
2.1 Casting All Cares Upon Him
Verses: 1 Peter 5:7; Psalm 55:22; Philippians 4:6-7
- We are encouraged to release our anxieties to the one God who cares for us.
- He is able to sustain us and will never let the righteous be moved by their burdens.
- Prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, bring a peace that surpasses all understanding.
2.2 The Peace of God

- Jesus, who is God manifest in flesh, gives us His peace, not as the world gives.
- Let the peace of God rule in your hearts, guiding your thoughts and emotions.
- Perfect peace is found in trusting the one God, whose mind is stayed on Him.
2.3 Reliance on God's Word

- God's word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path, guiding us through anxious times.
- The word of God is living and powerful, discerning the thoughts and intents of the heart.
- All scripture is given by inspiration of God, profitable for instruction and correction, equipping us for every good work.
3. The Power of the Spirit Within
3.1 The Spirit of God as Our Comforter

- The Spirit, which is the Spirit of Christ, dwells within us, providing comfort and guidance.
- The Spirit helps us in our weaknesses, interceding for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
- The fruit of the Spirit includes peace and self-control, countering anxiety and fear.
3.2 Walking in the Spirit
Verses: Galatians 5:16; Romans 8:6; Ephesians 5:18
- When we walk in the Spirit, we will not fulfill the lust of the flesh, including anxious thoughts.
- To be spiritually minded is life and peace, leading to freedom from worry.
- Be filled with the Spirit, speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs.
3.3 The Spirit's Empowerment Over Fear

- God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
- We have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear, but the Spirit of adoption.
- The Spirit empowers us to overcome all the power of the enemy, including the torment of anxiety.
4. Living a Life Free from Worry
4.1 Seeking God's Kingdom First
Verses: Matthew 6:33; Luke 12:31; Psalm 37:4
- Prioritizing God's kingdom and righteousness ensures that all our needs will be met.
- Seek first His kingdom, and all these things shall be added to you.
- Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.
4.2 The Importance of Prayer and Thanksgiving
Verses: Philippians 4:6-7; Colossians 4:2; 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
- Through prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, our requests are made known to God, bringing peace.
- Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant with thanksgiving in your heart.
- Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks, for this is the will of God.
4.3 Focusing on the Present Moment
Verses: Matthew 6:34; Lamentations 3:22-23; Psalm 118:24
- Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things.
- God's mercies are new every morning, great is His faithfulness.
- This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it, trusting Him for each moment.
