1. The Foundational Commands

1.1 Repent and Believe

  • Repentance signifies a change of heart and mind, turning away from sin.
  • It is a necessary condition for receiving forgiveness and entering into a right relationship with God.

1.2 Believe in Jesus

  • Faith is trust in Jesus Christ as the Son of God, the Messiah.
  • Believing in Him involves accepting His teachings and relying on His atoning sacrifice.

2. Commands Regarding Salvation

2.1 Be Baptized

  • Baptism in water by immersion is an act of obedience and identification with Christ's death, burial, and resurrection.
  • It symbolizes the washing away of sins and the beginning of a new life in Christ.

2.2 Receive the Holy Spirit

  • Receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit, evidenced by speaking in other tongues, is the fulfillment of God's promise.
  • It empowers believers for service and witness.

3. Commands Regarding Love

3.1 Love God

  • Loving God with all your heart, soul, and mind is the greatest commandment.
  • It involves prioritizing God above all else and seeking to please Him in every aspect of life.

3.2 Love Your Neighbor

  • Loving your neighbor as yourself means treating others with the same kindness, compassion, and respect that you desire for yourself.
  • It involves meeting their needs and seeking their well-being.

3.3 Love One Another

  • Loving one another as Christ loved us demonstrates our discipleship and unity.
  • It involves self-sacrifice, forgiveness, and a commitment to building up the body of Christ.

4. Commands Regarding Discipleship

4.1 Follow Me

  • Following Jesus involves denying oneself, taking up one's cross daily, and committing to obedience.
  • It requires a willingness to suffer for His sake and to prioritize His will above our own.

4.2 Be My Witnesses

Verses: Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 1:8; Luke 24:48
  • Being a witness involves sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with others through words and actions.
  • It requires boldness, compassion, and a reliance on the Holy Spirit.
