Understanding Revelation
A Bible study outline exploring different facets of revelation.
1. The Nature of Divine Revelation
1.1 God's Self-Disclosure
Verses: John 1:18; Hebrews 1:1-2
- No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him.
- God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world.
1.2 Progressive Revelation
Verses: Genesis 12:1-3; Galatians 3:8
- God's revelation unfolds gradually throughout history.
- The gospel was preached beforehand to Abraham.
2. Modes of Revelation
2.1 General Revelation
Verses: Romans 1:20; Psalm 19:1-4
- God's existence and attributes are evident through creation.
- The heavens declare the glory of God.
2.2 Special Revelation
Verses: 2 Timothy 3:16; John 1:1-14
- God reveals Himself specifically through the Word and Jesus.
- The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.
2.3 Dreams and Visions
Verses: Acts 2:17; Joel 2:28
- In the last days, God will pour out His Spirit, and people will dream dreams and see visions.
- This is a sign of the outpouring of the Spirit.
3. The Authority of Scripture
3.1 Inspiration of the Bible
Verses: 2 Peter 1:20-21; 2 Timothy 3:16
- Scripture is not of human origin but comes from God.
- All Scripture is God-breathed and useful for teaching.
3.2 The Bible as the Final Authority
Verses: Isaiah 8:20; John 17:17
- The Bible is the standard for truth and doctrine.
- Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.
4. The Revelation of Jesus
4.1 Jesus as the Fullness of God
Verses: Colossians 2:9; John 14:9
- In Jesus dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.
- He who has seen Me has seen the Father.
4.2 The Name of Jesus
Verses: Acts 4:12; Philippians 2:9-11
- Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.
- God has highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name that is above every name.
