1. The Nature of Our Deliverance
1.1 Dead to the Law

- We have died to that which held us captive.
- This death is a spiritual reality through our union with Christ in His death.
- The law no longer has dominion over us.
1.2 Released from Obligation

- We are not under law but under grace.
- The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set us free.
- We are released from the penalty and power of sin.
2. Serving in Newness of Spirit
2.1 A Transformed Motivation
Verses: Romans 7:6; 2 Corinthians 3:6
- We serve not in the old way of a written code.
- Our service is motivated by the Spirit.
- The Spirit gives life, while the letter kills.
2.2 A Living Relationship
Verses: John 14:26; Romans 8:4
- The Spirit guides us into all truth.
- We walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
- The righteousness of the law is fulfilled in us through the Spirit.
3. The Purpose of the Law
3.1 Revealing Sin
Verses: Romans 3:20; Romans 7:7
- Through the law comes knowledge of sin.
- The law defines sin and makes us aware of our transgression.
- It shows us our need for a savior.
3.2 Pointing to Christ
Verses: Galatians 3:24; Romans 10:4
- The law was our tutor to bring us to Christ.
- Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.
- The law prepared the way for the gospel.
