- A talebearer reveals secrets, betraying trust and confidence.
- A trustworthy person keeps matters confidential, fostering security and discretion.
1.2 Avoiding the Talebearer
Verses: Proverbs 20:19
- One who goes about as a talebearer reveals secrets; therefore do not associate with one who flatters with his lips.
- Avoid those who are prone to gossip, as they cannot be trusted with sensitive information.
2. The Seriousness of Gossip
2.1 Gossip as a Sin

- Gossip is listed among a catalog of sins that characterize those who reject God.
- Those who engage in gossip, and approve of it in others, are worthy of death.

- Gossip can lead to strife, envy, and discord within the church.
- Paul feared that he would find gossip among the Corinthian believers.

- Idle women learn to be gossips and busybodies, saying things they ought not to.

3.1 Speaking Words of Edification
Verses: Ephesians 4:29
- Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.
- Our words should build up and encourage others, not tear them down through gossip.
3.2 Bridling the Tongue
Verses: James 1:26
- If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless.
- Controlling our tongue is essential to genuine faith and demonstrates true devotion to God.

4.1 Accountability for Words

- Every idle word that men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.
- Our words have consequences, and we will be held accountable for them.
4.2 Guarding Your Speech

- Whoever guards his mouth and tongue keeps his soul from troubles.
- Controlling our speech protects us from many problems and difficulties.
