The Righteousness of God Through Faith

A comprehensive study on the nature of God's righteousness, its revelation in Jesus Christ, and its application to the believer through faith and the new birth.

1. The Revelation of the Righteous One

1.1 The Absolute Oneness of God

Verses: Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 45:21-22
  • God is numerically one and is the only source of true righteousness.
  • There is no other Savior or God besides the one who revealed Himself to Israel.

1.2 The Incarnation of God in Christ

Verses: 1 Timothy 3:16; Colossians 2:9
  • Jesus Christ is the manifestation of the one true God in human flesh.
  • The fullness of the Godhead dwells bodily in Jesus, making Him the perfect mediator of righteousness.

2. The Application of Righteousness

2.1 The Obedience of Faith

Verses: Romans 1:5; James 2:17-18
  • Saving faith is expressed through obedience to the Gospel message.
  • Faith without corresponding action is dead and cannot justify the believer.

2.2 The New Birth Pattern

Verses: John 3:5; Acts 2:38
  • Righteousness is applied through the water and the Spirit as commanded by Christ.
  • Repentance, baptism in Jesus' name, and the gift of the Holy Spirit constitute the biblical response of faith.

2.3 The Authority of the Name

Verses: Acts 4:12; Philippians 2:9-11
  • The name of Jesus is the only name given for salvation and the remission of sins.
  • Faith in the name of Jesus is essential for the believer to be clothed in His righteousness.

3. The Life of Righteousness

3.1 Justification and Regeneration

Verses: 2 Corinthians 5:21; Titus 3:5
  • Believers are made the righteousness of God through the washing of regeneration.
  • Justification is not merely a legal standing but a transformative work of the Spirit.

3.2 Walking in Holiness

Verses: Hebrews 12:14; 2 Corinthians 7:1
  • Righteousness produces a life of holiness and separation from the world.
  • Believers are called to perfect holiness in the fear of God as a result of their faith.

3.3 The Fruit of the Spirit

Verses: Galatians 5:22-25; Ephesians 5:9
  • The internal presence of the Spirit produces the outward fruit of righteousness.
  • Walking in the Spirit ensures that the believer does not fulfill the lusts of the flesh.
